The Year of the Captain 2026 | The Coming of Charlie
EVE Wrestle Queendom 8: Charlie vs. Kris Statlander

It had been almost a year since her last match. Almost a year since she bid her sister in damage farewell. The name she had taken on for nearly eight years was no more. It was a year filled with doubt about her place in the world. But a fateful message with an opportunity would reignite her passion. With a new-yet-familiar name, it was now time for her to step back into the world she had left behind. On March 8 in The Year of The Captain 2026, Charlie would return to pro wrestling.

March 8, 2026. Indigo at The O2. London, England. EVE Wrestle Queendom VIII. It was fitting that on International Women’s Day, EVE Riot Grrrls of Wrestling (a.k.a. Pro Wrestling: EVE) would hold one of the biggest events on their calendar. And on said late afternoon, Charlie would return to the ring for the first time in nearly a year, challenging EVE International Champion Kris Statlander. Stat is a powerhouse who calls herself the Cosmic Killer, perfectly reflecting a nastier mood she’s been in since recently losing the AEW Women’s World Title.

The crowd received both women well, though I’d argue Charlie per her return to pro wrestling got a tad louder reaction. This big fight feel championship contest began on a respectful note with Charlie accepting Stat’s handshake. A show of mat mastery and agility started things. After a failed attempt to headmare Statlander to the canvas, Charlie’s second effort was a success. Stat evaded a corner attack, coming back swiftly striking Charlie flush with a murderous knee strike followed by a very delayed vertical suplex.

Charlie rolled to the floor to collect herself, the blood still rushing to the top of her head after crashing down hard from the vertical. Stat got caught with a back cracker on the apron, sending her hard to the floor while Charlie took quite a nasty fall herself landing back to the hardest part of the ring. Charlie went for the running apron PK, Stat catching her leg and lifting her onto her shoulders, dropping her face first to the apron like Charlie’s Aussie rivals have especially enjoyed doing way too much in her past lives.

Stat arrogantly took a victory lap to the stage before returning to ringside to toss Charlie back into the ring. After being splashed in the corner, Charlie reversed an Irish whip mauling Stat to the canvas with a clothesline. Stat tried for a back suplex, Charlie countering it and rolling Stat back of head first into the middle rope. Stat evaded the running face wash, then took control of the match for a time for two consecutive high angle back suplexes and a snap powerslam.

Charlie fought back with clotheslines which Stat devoured, until Stat ducked under and Charlie whipped back with a momentum-fueled clothesline, canvassing Stat to the corner. This time the running face wash struck Stat. Kris caught a superkick, in turn reverse body slamming Charlie to the canvas. Charlie caught Stat with a superkick followed by a Bayley-to-Belly of all things. I will gladly choose to interpret that as a sign they made peace with each other. Charlie went for a second but Stat fought it off, instead scooping Charlie up into a sit-out slam that is different yet too much a reminder of a certain move that brings back nightmares of January 2025 and February 2025. Anyway…

Stat became visibly frustrated, not just with her inability to put Charlie away but perhaps at the crowd for rallying behind The Captain of Team F’N Kick. Charlie fought off a powerbomb, but her attempt at what we’ll temporarily call the Charliepractor resulted in her back dropped. Dueling roundhouse kicks and pump kicks canvassed both women. Bombs were thrown as they got to their feet. Stat nearly took Charlie’s head off with a roundhouse kick to the skull. Stat clipped Charlie’s surgically repaired knee. It brought Charlie pain but she feasted on it, returning the favor and doing the same clipping to Stat. The running face wash. The Yakuza Kick. BANG! This time a successful Charliepractor. Charlie made the cover. 1-2-Kickout. Charlie climbed to the second rope. Stat cut her off. Charlie head butted Stat to the canvas. A perfectly calculated Destroyer spiked Stat’s skull to the canvas. 1-2-Kickout Again.

Charlie upped the violence, tossing Stat to the apron, Kris’s head draped over the second rope. The rope assisted curb stomp spiked Stat’s head yet again to the canvas. 1-2-Kickout once more. What would it take to put Statlander down for three? Charlie climbed the ropes, perhaps hoping for the Coup-de-Charlie to seal the deal. Stat got to her feet, catching Charlie as she came down at her perhaps planning to modify her offense but too late.

Stat executed a tombstone piledriver and cover, but Charlie got a foot up on the rope to stay in the fight. This and the crowd largely rallying for Charlie enraged Statlander, resulting in the Cosmic Killer going to a violent place she hadn’t in some time. Two consecutive tombstone piledrivers followed by... let's just call it Night Fever. Each nastier and more brutal. 1-2-3. And still EVE International Champion Kris Statlander. The usually pleasant Statlander celebrated her win by flipping off a fan and arrogantly patronizing Charlie as The Captain made her way to the back.

It was a fight fought hard by Charlie that ended in a loss. Yes, we’ve been here before. But an angry, pissed off, violent Cosmic Killer was a risky first match back. The important thing was Charlie reminded the world who the fuck she is. It was a standout, epic show of combat mastery by The Captain of Team F’N Kick. From classic offense to some new offense in her arsenal. It was her return to form. It was The Coming of Charlie.
