September 22, 2023. Desert Diamond Arena. Glendale, Arizona. SmackDown. The match the world has waited years to see is finally here. IYO SKY versus Asuka. The WWE Women's Championship is on the line and IYO is ready to successfully defend it. Dakota Kai knows it. Bayley had some concerns about if IYO was ready last week, however I'm trying to be optimistic what she later told Dakota about believing IYO was ready is honesty and not just talk. Onto the events of September 22. First of all, Our Captain is back to rockin' the pink hair.
Prior to the opening bell, Charlotte sniffed there was championship gold present and came down to ringside to stalk the title. Sadly, championships can't get restraining orders. IYO and Asuka waged a spectacular 20 minute war, leaving it all in the ring. Dakota and Bayley supported their Damage CTRL sister from ringside. Bayley was even kind enough to cool down Asuka at one point. It came down to IYO trapped in the Asuka Lock. IYO's foot was close to the ropes so Bayley kindly assisted it there. It would have gotten there on its own so she just sped things up. Bayley made sure the referee saw the foot so Asuka was forced to break.
So about Charlotte. Who has barely ever played by the rules. Is the daughter of the dirtiest player in the game. Go figure, she took offense to what Bayley did and attacked her. But in the end, Bayley merely took one for the team because Charlotte's presence stole Asuka's gaze, giving IYO a moment to recover. Double knees whiplash crashed Asuka to the canvas. Over the Moonsault finished her off. A hard-fought battle resulted in a well-deserved, landmark victory in the career of The Genius of the SKY. And still Your WWE Women's Champion IYO SKY.
In a WWE Digital Exclusive, The Ladies arrived backstage about to celebrate IYO's successful title defense when Cathy Kelley interrupted them for comment. Dakota and Cathy are friends so I'm going to assume she had the best intentions. IYO was happy because she beat Asuka. Dakota added Asuka wasn't ready. Bayley quipped Asuka wasn't ready for herself. That was a good one. Bayley went onto express her continued frustration with Charlotte sticking her nose in Damage CTRL business. And her obsession with championships and with The Role Model herself. And trying to steal the spotlight from IYO versus Asuka including IYO's victory.
Bayley expressed that she looks forward to settling things with Charlotte when they have a match on the September 29, 2023 episode of SmackDown. That egomaniac Charlotte got Bayley so worked up she almost said she was going to shut up IYO by mistake. Bayley was apologetic to IYO then correctly stated they were going to celebrate IYO's successful title defense and shut up Charlotte. IYO deserves to celebrate and Charlotte deserves a trashing for being an obsessive stalker. That biased Flair family flunky Charles Robinson better not be the referee.
